Week 1

Reading 

The expectation is that you will be reading on a daily basis and that this should still be recorded in your reading record. We look forward to seeing what books you have read and the words that you have magpied.  

A Reading Journal of activities is attached HERE and HERE for you to complete one each day. You can either print out the activities or use them for inspiration.  

You also have reading comprehension books to work through. During this first week, we would like you to complete one fiction and one non-fiction activity. You can choose which activities these are.

Spelling 

This week’s spellings are focusing on the sound ‘k’ when it is spelt with ‘ch’. Ask a member of your family to test you on these spellings.

Writing 

This week you are going to write an escape story and a letter.

Find ‘A new way to travel’ – March 12th. 

Task 1 - Invent an escape story, focusing on using a range of punctuation and building tension.  

Task 2 - Write a formal persuasive letter to explain why your new invention is the best way to travel. 

Remember:  

  • Use some of this week’s spellings in your writing 
  • Organise your writing into paragraphs 
  • Use a variety of sentence structures 
  • Edit your work – does it make sense?  

Maths 

 

Each day, we would like you to work your way through the Y6 Maths CGP book. In the first week, we would like you to complete sections 1 and 2. Ask an adult to mark this with you – the answers are at the back of the book. 

There are slides and worksheets for you to complete. You can either print these or write the questions and answers in your book.
