Welcome to Year 3
Barnacles - Mr Edwards
Starfish - Miss Bridgman
Seahorses - Miss Kelly
It is so lovely to see all the children back at school, brimming with enthusiasm and ready to learn! We also welcome a new teacher to our team, Miss Kelly, who is taking over while Miss Torres prepares for the arrival of her baby.
Though this term is short, we have lots of exciting activities planned, including an archaeological dig in the school grounds. We are looking forward to seeing what amazing historical artefacts we can uncover, buried beneath our feet! Meanwhile, our Literacy topic takes a more sinister turn as we learn how to write stories of fright and suspense, inspired by a modern classic in children's literature, Varjak Paw. In Maths, our main focus will be on learning to tell the time, while we will be doing regular 'fluency' activities to help the children sharpen up their number facts, mental calculation skills and times tables.
PE - Children should wear their PE kits to school on Wednesdays and Fridays. The outdoor court is in an exposed location so please ensure children have jumpers, jogging bottoms and gloves to ensure they are comfortable outside.
Reading - Encouraging a love of reading is the single most important contribution you can make to your child's educational development at this stage. We ask that you and your child read four times each week and note this on Seesaw. Entries will be checked weekly by the class teacher. We love to hear what books you are reading but you can also tell us about comics, websites and anything else that has caught your eye! Children will be offered a new book to take home each Wednesday. We ask that finished books are returned to school by the following Monday so they can be quarantined in time to be shared again.
Maths - Tasks that consolidate topics covered in class will be set regularly on Mathletics. Each child has a personal log-in and password which which they will bring home. Please speak to your class teacher if your child has trouble logging on as regular tasks will be set for homework.
Spellings - A list of the top 200 high frequency words we use can be found here.
