Forest School
“Forest School is an inspirational process, which offers all learners regular opportunities to achieve and develop self confidence and self-esteem through hands on experiences in a woodland or natural environment with trees.”
(Cited from the Forest School Association.)

Research shows that regular con
tact with the outdoors during Forest School sessions, can really help boost children's self-esteem and confidence, develop resilience and problem solving, promote both teamwork and independent work, give children a sense of responsibility and develop a variety of other social and imagination skills.
During Forest School sessions at Saltdean Primary School, children have the freedom to establish their own learning goals and make personal connections with nature. They take part in a range of adventurous activities with the support of the Forest School Leaders and trained adults.
These activities include: den building, whittling, building a fire,
cooking on a fire and using tools to make a product.
Forest School sessions take place in all seasons, in the Wild Area and in a copse on the Lower Field.
Sessions are only postponed in the event of a health and safety issues, staff absence,
or due to adverse weather conditions such as stormy weather and strong winds.
