Learning Powers

At Saltdean Primary School we believe that intelligence is not fixed and that everybody can grow their intelligence. With time, effort, practice and input all children can achieve. We seek to encourage all children to develop a Growth Mindset which values effort and perseverance, rather than a Fixed Mindset which concentrates on ability. Children are taught about the Fixed and Growth Mindsets and these are referred to inside the classroom as well as on the playground and around the school. Our learning powers help us all to become better learners. They are:

Be Creative

(Visualise, draw, represent, ask questions, get inspiration)

Make Links and Connections

(Notice things, Look for patterns and connections, Think of possible reasons, apply your skills in different areas)

Communicate Effectively

(Listen to others, Say when you don’t understand, Be kind when you disagree, Explain your ideas and methods clearly)

Have a Go

(Have a Growth Mindset, choose a sensible place to start, use resources to help you get started, start straight away, don't worry about making mistakes)

Persevere

(Be resilient, Don’t give up, Work hard, Practise lots, Keep going, Try new strategies, Ask for help, Start again, Learn from your mistakes)
