Walk to School week!
Throughout the week of Monday 21st-25th May, Saltdean Primary School will be taking part in Walk to School Week. This week is an opportunity to celebrate and focus on all the benefits of being active on the way to school and encourage the whole school community to have a go!
The school journey is an ideal way for children to achieve their minimum recommended daily activity of 60 minutes and become more alert and ready for the day ahead. Walking to school in our local and natural environment, also means that younger children develop those road safety skills that will be essential when they start travelling independently.
By taking part in Walk to School Week, our school will be encouraging everyone to either leave their cars at home or park them a short walk from school to travel the last part by foot. As well as helping to keep our children active, we are also helping to decrease the carbon footprint and contributing to a congestion-free zone around the school.
Every class teacher will be given a chart to plot the walking activities of their classes throughout the week. These charts will be collected in and one child from the winning class will have the chance to win a family voucher for Blackberry Farm. This will be decided by a raffle when the winning class is announced. All children in the school will receive a sticker for their efforts.
You might also be able to spot a surprise visitor one day if you walk to school!
