Commonwealth games celebration torch run
The Deans Sports Partnership Community Torch Run
Supported by Maslen Estate Agents
THIS IS A NON UNIFORM DAY- PLEASE CAN CHILDREN INCORPORATE THE COLOUR GREEN INTO THEIR OUTFITS TO SHOW SUPPORT FOR SPS!
Once more it is time for the Biennial celebration torch run visiting the five primary schools in the Deans Cluster. The event involves the Sports Captains from each school running with the torches to each of the partnership schools in turn. This event will be taking place on Friday 20th April. Our six Year 6 sports Captains will be running part or all of the route to represent Saltdean, supported by teaching staff and parents.
This year the event will begin at Woodingdean Primary School and end at Saltdean Primary School. When the torch runners arrive at Saltdean, the whole school will welcome them onto the field and support them as they run their final few laps. The school will then form a ring of colour around the field to represent one of the colours of the Commonwealth Games logo. As a school we have been allocated the colour GREEN.
We are asking therefore, that on Friday 20th April, your child comes to school wearing a green tshirt so we can form a green ring around the track. A voluntary donation of 50p would be welcome and will be used to fund additional sports equipment for our school. Following this lap of colour the children will leave the field and go back to their classrooms. A presentation of medals will then take place for the Sports Captains and a few classes will stay out to support this along with parents and carers of all torch runners.
Please note: Only parents and carers of Sports Captain torch runners from the Deans Schools will be able to attend this event and presentation. The children will welcome back the runners by wearing green and running the final lap of the field before the presentation begins.
